NICE published an update to its 2010 guidance for diagnosis and management of COPD in December 2018. The update aims to help people with COPD receive an earlier diagnosis, so they can benefit from treatments to reduce symptoms, improve quality of life and keep them healthy for longer.

The update also includes the recommendation to use GLI 2012 reference values for spirometry testing. This information is useful for healthcare professionals, commissioners and providers, also people with COPD, their families and carers.
